Overview
Tamilnad Mercantile Bank is pleased to facilitate customer awareness of the RBI Retail Direct Scheme, an initiative of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) that enables individual investors to invest directly in Government Securities through an online platform. Under the scheme, eligible investors can open a Retail Direct Gilt (RDG) Account with RBI and invest in Government-backed securities without the need for intermediaries.
Products Available Under RBI Retail Direct
Investors can access a wide range of Government securities, including:
• Government of India Dated Securities (G-Secs)
• Treasury Bills (T-Bills)
• State Development Loans (SDLs)
• Sovereign Gold Bonds (as and when available)
• Floating Rate Savings Bonds (as applicable)
Benefits
• Direct investment in Government Securities through RBI.
• Access to both Primary Issuances and the Secondary Market.
• Securities held electronically in the Retail Direct Gilt (RDG) Account.
• Convenient online account opening and investment process.
• Interest and maturity proceeds are credited directly to the linked bank account, as applicable.
• No fee is charged by RBI for opening and maintaining a Retail Direct Gilt (RDG) Account. Applicable payment gateway or transaction charges, if any, may be borne by the investor.
Who Can Apply?
Individual retail investors who meet RBI's eligibility requirements may open a Retail Direct Gilt (RDG) Account through the RBI Retail Direct Portal. Eligible investors are required to have:
• A Rupee Savings Bank Account maintained in India
• PAN
• Valid KYC documents
• Registered mobile number and email ID
Non-Resident retail investors may also be eligible to invest, subject to applicable RBI and FEMA regulations.
